Exercise for Life not Life for Exercise
Was speaking with a patient yesterday and this important concept came up. We all know exercise is great, but sometimes we can get too focused on looking for all the “right” exercises to do or trying to get into the gym or on our bike when it might not realistically fit into our day.
Guess what - there is no one “right” way to exercise. It is okay to not do everything the way someone else thinks is best. It is your life, so you get to decide what is important and what you want to prioritize. Pick your focus areas, a goal you want to achieve, or something to work towards, and then take some time to get intentional about what small steps you can take today that will help you achieve that goal.
Do you want to be able to hike with a 30lb kid on your back? Maybe load up your backpack with some weights while going for your daily walks, or practice doing squats while safely holding your kid to build up your tolerance to handling the weight. You can always ramp up challenges over time if you tolerate them well to get to that next stage.
Next time you are fitting in your exercise, take a step back and consider why you are doing what you are doing, and how it will help you do the things you really want to do in your life. Once these things align, you may just find that your life is supporting your exercise instead of the exercise consuming your life.
As always, if you need some help along the process, reach out. We would love to help you!
